Meet the Board
Hilary Pfeifer, Art on Alberta President, has lived in the Alberta Arts District since 2002, although her roots in the area go much deeper. Her great grandfather was the construction foreman for St. Andrews Church on 10th and Alberta Street, and her great great grandparents lived here almost a century ago. She makes her living as an artist and currently has an installation on view at Ogle Gallery through November 1, 2008. Hilary runs a small business from her home studio called Bunny with a Toolbelt.
Peggy Pfenninger, Art on Alberta Vice President, escapes the rigid constraints of her 9 to 5 existence as a graphic designer at Camera Graphics, by painting, taking photographs, mentoring for the Oregon Youth Challenge Program, and volunteering for Art on Alberta. This fiery Italian is a regular bike commuter who loves karaoke and owns a home in the Concordia neighborhood. Peggy graduated with a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design.
Jenn Woodward oversees the website at http://artonalberta.org. Originally from Texas, Jenn received her MFA in studio art from the joint degree program of Tufts University/ The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. After weathering many brutal New England winters, Jenn, her fiance, and their two cats moved to Portland three years ago. Weekdays you can find her hammering out admin. and HR issues as Office Coordinator for All Classical FM. Weekends you can find her drawing, camping, cooking, running, reading, watching movies and generally enjoying the beauty and rich culture of the Pacific Northwest.
Art on Alberta Public Relations Coordinator Jaye Campbell started her Flying Shuttle Weaving Studio custom handweaving business in 1979. One of her ongoing clients is Timberline Lodge which was featured last year in the PBS series, "Craft in America" she experienced a nanosecond of fame in the filming of the segment on the lodge. Jaye is the Textiles Coordinator, the Gallery Coordinator, and a weaving instructor at the Multnomah Arts Center in Portland and also volunteers as a textiles consultant to Frank Lloyd Wright's Gordon House in Silverton.
Art on Alberta Membership Coordinator Alice Orleman McLean has a BFA in sculpture and BA in Art History from Boston University and California College of Arts and Crafts. She lived and worked in San Francisco as a product designer and floral designer before helping a friend establish her mosaic company, quickly becoming the project manager. Alice relocated to Portland in 2006 where she feels settled in this art-filled and inspiring city. When not driving up membership numbers for Art on Alberta, she works as a mosaic assistant for large-scale commissions.
Eve Connell’s realm at Art on Alberta spans newsletter creation, and grants writing and oversight. This native Californian relocated to the Concordia neighborhood four years ago only to immediately consider Portland home. Eve is a retired college/graduate school professor and former art gallery owner who now spends billable hours writing, editing, training, singing, and flower arranging. She fancies herself a worm rancher and eats ice cream three times a day in the summer months.
Volunteer Coordinator Shir Ly Grisanti is an independent arts professional who resides in the Portsmouth Neighborhood of North Portland. Her name, pronounced Sheer Lee, rhymes with “clearly”, and means "my song" in Hebrew. An east-coast transplant, she earned an M.A. in Museum Studies, and has worked with various arts organizations in New York, Boston, Portland and places in between. She has also started working with independent artists to help secure exhibition opportunities and develop community-focused projects.
Art on Alberta Treasurer Laura Packard received her BFA in art history from Alfred University and escaped chilly Western New York State for Portland three years ago. Currently, Laura works in an accounting position with OHSU’s technology transfer office. When not playing with numbers for work, grad school or AoA, she can be found reading excellent books, baking delicious items, or palling around with her cats.
Kevin Fischer is our Exhibitions Coordinator who received his BA from The Cooper Union School of Architecture. He was an adjunct professor of architecture in Dublin, Ireland and in New York, and received a poetry fellowship along the way. As sole proprietor of a residential architectural design company in NE Portland, and a skilled stand-up comedian, Kevin gleefully collaborates with artists to install their work in the AoA shows at the Grow Gallery during Last Thursdays on Alberta.
Lydia Moore is our Secretary and Vendor Coordinator. She received degrees in art and design, and is currently working towards her MBA in Non Profits Management. When she is not working or studying she is pursuing her own personal artistic endeavors that span group shows and donations to nonprofits for fundraising projects. A lover of popcorn and an owner of a traveling black cat who has lived in six states Lydia is enjoying settling into her Portland life.
